Změny v množství vázaného uhlíku v nadzemní biomase v lesní rezervaci Greenfields, Nikaragua
Dvořák, Vít
The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in the amount of carbon sequestered in the private reserve Greenfields, located in a tropical rainforest in Nicaragua. Two forest inventories were carried out (in 2015 and 2022), and from the obtained data, the biomass and the amount of sequestered carbon in the forested area of the Greenfields reserve were calculated. The data was then compared with the results of other similarly focused studies in the area, contextualized within biological succession, and finally, a financing system for the reserve was proposed through carbon trading payments.
The foreign policy of the United States of America towards Nicaragua after the Cuban Revolution
Černá, Kateřina ; Perutka, Lukáš (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
This thesis examines the foreign policy of the United States towards Nicaragua between 1961-1973. When the John F. Kennedy administration took office in 1961, there was concern about developments in Cuba and, in particular, the possibility of a similar fate in Latin American countries. This concern gave rise to the largest foreign aid program up to that time, the Alliance for Progress. Although it was a comprehensive aid scheme taking into account both economic and social issues, the results of the Alliance were contradictory. Nicaragua was a case in point. This paper uses the case study method to explain the results of the Alliance for Progress using Nicaragua as an example. By synthesizing literary sources and secondary literature, the various objectives of the Alliance for Progress are evaluated. The first part of the thesis examines the political situation of the United States both domestically and globally. The second part of the thesis describes the nature of the Alliance for Progress, the fulfilment of its goals, and the implications for the people of the Republic of Nicaragua. The thesis concludes that in the case of Nicaragua, the Alliance for Progress succeeded in the economic sphere. However, the vast majority of social issues remained unresolved and the Alliance's main objective, to...
The Influence of the Cuban Revolution on the US Approach to the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua
Kaluha, Adam ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Krausz Hladká, Malvína (referee)
This thesis examines US foreign policy towards Latin American countries during the Cold War. The purpose of this thesis is to determine if the Cuban Revolution influenced the United States' foreign policy stance towards the revolution in Nicaragua. In order to do this, the thesis uses mostly analysis of U.S. State Department documents published in the Foreign Relations of the United States book series combined with scholarly literature and articles. The thesis is divided into three main parts. In the first part, I examine U.S. foreign policy toward Latin American countries after World War II until the revolution in Cuba. The second part examines the US attitude towards the Cuban Revolution and the third part examines the US attitude towards the Sandinista Revolution. I then bring all the information together in the conclusion of the thesis and find that the Cuban Revolution had a significant impact on U.S. foreign policy in relation to the revolution in Nicaragua, as the fear of a repeat of the Cuban scenario forced the U.S. to become more actively involved in Nicaragua than during the Cuban Revolution.

Houšková, Petra ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with U.S. foreign policy towards regime in Nicaragua in 1980s and during the last eleven years - since when, specify, which means during the era of Daniel Ortega. For the United States he represents a very inconvenient person and it is using different methods, which have been developing over the years, they are trying to remove him from the leadership of the country. His assumption of leadership of the country provoked commotion in the Reagan administration. It started to work on his overthrow. These attempts led to an affair known as Iran-Contras, when it was revealed that American administration was illegally financially supporting and training rebels, who should have overthrown Ortega. The United Stated started to use more sophisticated methods in the 21st century; they are trying to fight against Ortega by using more diplomatic policy and by new law called the Nica Act. Even though they are not using illegal methods anymore, they have been criticized for interfering into the internal affairs of a sovereign state. My thesis is analysing and comparing the methods, which American administrations have been using in Nicaragua. The main questions the thesis answers are: which methods American foreign policy has been using to interfere into this central American country and...
Causes of Significant Income Inequalities in Nicaragua and Possible Solutions
Nguyen, My Hanh ; Sejkora, Jiří (advisor) ; Hasík, Gabriel (referee)
The thesis examines the causes of significant income inequalities in Nicaragua and potential measures that could be taken to reduce them. The causes were found in the existence of extractive institutions based on nepotism, which led to the economic independence of broad mass of the population being suppressed in the long-term. Since there were found relatively sharp differences between urban and rural areas among the particular causes, it was suggested to transfer part of investments, in terms of economic policies, into the subsistence, mainly the agricultural sector. Further, were the measures related to broader access to education, health services and also to institutional changes in the long run.

The doctoral thesis Czechoslovakia, Mexico and Central America 1945-1989 analyses political, economic and cultural relations between that country of the called Iron Curtain and the Mesoamerican countries during the Cold War in the twentieth century.
